About the Author
My name is Paul Ellis, and these are my words. I love to critique things, even/especially the products I really like. I don’t intend to offend, but I don’t pull punches. If I’m wrong let me know; you won’t hurt my feelings. :)
My Background
I have been into technology for a really long time. I used to ride my bike to Radioshack when I was a kid and I built my first computer (an 8088) when I was about ten years old.
I consider myself something of a “jack-of-all-tech”. Whether it is software development (HTML5, Silverlight, proprietary, open-source, etc), hardware (GPGPUs, OpenCL, etc), codecs (MPEG-4 ASP/AVC, WebM, etc), or gaming and digital entertainment (both the business sides and for leisure) I am into it.
I currently work as a consumer software Product Manager at DivX, which was recently acquired by Sonic Solutions. My focus is on our web software, desktop suite, and even some apps. I joined DivX after getting an MBA in marketing and finance from the Krannert School of Management at Purdue University. Before that I spent quite a few years working in IT; particularly in dental integration. For more on my professional background check my LinkedIn profile.
Other Interests
Music: I love to write, play, and listen to music. I play a few intruments, my main one being guitar which I have been playing for almost 15 years now. I like to program Loop-based (ala FruityLoops, not Acid) digital music too.
Cars: I have always loved how art and technology collide in automobiles, especially Porsches.
Economics: Yeah, I know it sounds lame, but I find it fascinating to look at macro and micro level economic stuff.
